In 2006, the U.N. Security Council voted for a resolution to end a bruising monthlong conflict between Israel and Lebanon’s powerful Hezbollah militant group, and pave the way for lasting security along the border.

Netanyahu said that how long the ceasefire lasted would depend on what happened in Lebanon. "We will enforce the agreement and respond forcefully to any violation. We will continue united until victory," he said.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu backed the agreement, saying it would let Israel focus on the threat from Iran.
