The Auburn Tigers built a double-digit lead and never really let the North Carolina Tar Heels back in the game as they posted an 85-72 win in the Maui Invitational semifinals Thursday night.

UNC hasn’t shown much consistency on the defensive end under Hubert Davis. This team has a ton of potential, but there’s also volatility in their performance from game to game, whereas Auburn looks like a great team on both ends of the court.

The only time these two teams have played each other in history was a Sweet Sixteen matchup in the 2019 NCAA Tournament. Auburn ended up winning that game 97-80 to bounce the Tar Heels from March Madness, ending their season. Coby White and Cameron Johnson led the team in the loss, each dropping 15 points.

North Carolina will take the court at the Lahaina Civic Center for the second time in as many days in the semifinal round of the Maui Invitational tonight. In the first round, they took down Dayton, 92-90.
